Old Boys despatch Cheadle to stay top

ONLY goal difference is separating Leek CSOB and Silverdale Athletic at the top of the table after the Old Boys maintained their impressive start to the season.

Leek, who also have a game in hand, beat Cheadle Town 3-0. Josh Hall, George Butcher and Sam Pettitt made it 11 wins from 14 outings for the Moorlander­s.

Stafford made the most of an away day at Premier Division back markers Florence with a stunning 15-goal haul.

Stafford climbed up to fourth as a result as they inflicted an 11th successive defeat on their hosts.

And there would have been a battle for the match ball as well as three Stafford players hits hat-tricks in the 15-1 success.

Lenny Baker, Joe Shanley and Queenton Manse all grabbed trebles, while Tom Webb (2), Harry Bowers, Sam Jessup, Andy Dodd and Kyle Ashman finished off the scoring.

Silverdale Athletic are still top of the pile after romping to a 6-0 home victory over Walsall Phoenix.

Alsager Town had a productive day on the road as they returned from Ashbourne with a 2-0 triumph.

Dan Biegus and Tom Kirkham were on target to inch Alsager further in to midtable.

Hanley Town caused something of a surprise as they registered only their second win of the season at Redgate Clayton’s expense.

Jordan Hall was the hero of the hour for Hanley to prevent Redgate Clayton from moving up the standings.

Dave Ashley was at the double for Wolstanton United as they saw off Tunstall Town’s challenge 2-0.

And Foley Meir remain in third place following their comfortabl­e 3-1 home win against Brereton Social.

Mark Grice scored twice for the high-fliers, with Shay Finney also putting his name on the scoresheet.

In Division One, Keele University hit the goal trail to thump Red Star Alma 8-1.

That left Red Star second-from-bottom, although it is Staffordsh­ire Moorlands who prop up the rest after they were beaten 5-1 at Whittingto­n.

At the other end of the table, Leek CSOB Reserves are five points behind Audley following a 2-1 win at Walsall Phoenix.

Market Drayton Tigers moved up to third after a 0-0 draw at Shenstone Pathfinder.

They replaced Abbey Hulton United, who were beaten 2-0 at home by Milton United.

There was home disappoint­ment for Ball Haye Green, who are fourth-frombottom after losing 2-0 to Redgate Clayton Reserves.

In Division Two, there were 15 goals in the meeting between Feathersto­ne and Newport Town.

And it was the Shropshire side who went home happy after emerging 9-6 winners.

Acorn Albion were also left smiling following their 3-2 home success against Lichfield City Casuals, while Chesterton were 2-0 winners on the road at bottom side Audley Reserves.

Coven Athletic beat Cheadle Town Reserves 7-4, with Eastwood Hanley’s second string edging out Cannock United 2-1.
