‘Many of us are proud to be working class’

-

WITH reference to the Post & Times dated October 10 and the letter from Margaret Mason regarding the closure of the “Bull” public house Kingsley:

I really did not realise that people like Margaret Mason lived not only in our community but in our country, as I believed that views regarding working class people had been eradicated in our free society.

I am a retired pensioner who has worked all my life and being a

working man has contributed to this great country we live in. I also served in the armed forces.

In my senior years the Bull was a meeting place where I could catch up with friends over a pint.

In my opinion the Bull was an asset to our community and is unfortunately another example of a pub closure, not by the brewery as stated in Margaret Mason’s letter.

Margaret Mason blamed the Bull for litter and noise problems in our village, however this was still the case when the pub was closed on numerous occasions over the years.

Regarding the noise, villagers do venture out to surrounding areas and return to the village, so how can she identify the Bull as being the root cause of the problem?

I am proud like many other villagers of being “working class” and have never claimed benefits.

Margaret Mason states in her letter that “we don’t want a working men’s pub in Kingsley village”.

I would like to remind Margaret Mason that there are millions of UK residents who fall into the category “working men/women” – doctors, politicians, teachers, police have still got to go to work.

So if Margaret Mason has ever had a job she must fall into this category, unless she is claiming benefits.
