CHEADLE FLOWER CLUB
A MEETING with a difference this month for Cheadle Flower Club when 20 or so members and friends met at Heath House Farm, Forsbrook on Wednesday evening.
The owner Sue Doherty met us for a quick look around the shop before carrying on to a demonstration by Joanne. After the welcome refreshments, we watched and listened as she demonstrated how they make the Christmas wreaths which could hang on a door to warmly welcome guests over the Christmas period.
Joanne started by showing how to wire the traditional damp moss to a ring but then went on to exhibit the newer idea of strong coated wire outlines that are available nowadays in various shapes. These use a more up-to-date clamping idea for the ‘blue spruce’ that was used, following on to fill it with holly and picks of snowy white and bright red berries with fur cones and also cinnamon sticks. She finished with a colourful wire edged ribbon and bells and explained how these could be adapted for various uses with different decorations.
To finish she then showed a small pot, arranging it with damp floral foam and similar material but adding a bright little robin.
The ladies were very impressed and especially when Joanne went on to tell us that she would make up to 100 a day!
She added that the ‘greened’ rings and accessories could be purchased from the shop at Heath house Farm ready to decorate your own.
Following this we had time to look around the shop again, filled with Christmas goodies. Many bargains were purchased and it turned to be out a very enjoyable evening.
The chairman, Sheila, gave out leaflets with the club information, reminding everyone that there is an Area Workshop at Cockshutt on Christmas wreath making should anyone want to have a go.
The Christmas demonstration this year wil be back at the usual venue – the Guild Hall in Cheadle. It will be ‘Christmas Cheer’ by the very popular Anita Wright on November 21, 7pm for 7.30pm with a prompt start. Tickets are £8.50 or £10 on the door.
