Findlow double gives Athletic the cup break they needed

-

BREAKS Athletic are through to the second round of the Sentinel Sunday

Cup with a 5-3 win over

AFC Trent Tavern from the Potteries and District Premier Division.

Tavern have struggled this season and despite fielding just eight men, took the lead through Ben Blake on eight minutes.

Breaks knocked on Tavern’s door for the following half hour and broke through with a mazy run by Adrian Findlow (38) with Ben Bond doubling the lead with a thunderbolt from 25 yards just before the interval.

The second half was much of the same with Tavern playing backs to the wall, but Graham Peacham (52) broke to level, only for Adam Clowes to restore Athletic’s lead straight from the kick-off, brushing past the defender and finishing in the bottom corner.

Jack Davis added a single (70) and Findlow (80) completed his brace with Peacham also adding his second and Tavern’s third with five minutes remaining. It was a close game between Dyers Arms and Seighford B in the first round of the Sam Kimberley Trophy (North).

Calvin Burt opened for the visitors on the quarter hour with Dom Grindey (35) levelling before the interval. Dyers took the lead on the hour through Sam Potts, but then wasted many opportunities.

Thomas Crawley (75) and a second from Burt (86) settled the tie in Seighford’s favour.

In the Leek and District League, Prince of Wales remain unbeaten with a 7-1win over Breaks FC. Ashley Wilkes was quick out of the blocks to score in the third minute with Jamie Pointon doubling up 10 minutes later.

Jake Gordon (34), and Pointon (36) added two more, but Ash Hooley (44) reduced the deficit just before the interval.

Gordon made it a brace three minutes from the restart and Pointon completed his hat-trick 10 minutes later with Edwin Ellis finishing off with five minutes to go.

Golden Lion scored eight without reply against AFC Wellington.

Wellington started well having early chances, but Danny Hayes (20) was first on the score sheet followed by a brace from Jermaine Leveridge (25 and 33). Leveridge doubled his tally in the first five minutes of the second half with Craig Hayes (60), Scott Dixon (70) and Aaron Walker (77) hitting the target to finish off the rout.
