Old Boys and Cheadle Town enjoy cup wins

LEEK CSOB and Cheadle Town made progress in the Leek Cup with victory over Wolstanton United and Ball Haye Green respective­ly.

The Old Boys were 2-0 winners at home to Wolstanton United, thanks for goals from Drew Bennett on the stroke of half-time and Eddie Ellis in the 89th minute.

Bradley Wilson, meanwhile, scored a hat-trick for Cheadle Town in their 4-0 home victory over Moorlands rivals Ball Haye Green. Ben Milner was also on the scoresheet for the Thorley Drive side.

Audley claimed a Premier Division scalp on their way to reaching the second round.

The Division One leaders were 2-1 winners at home to establishe­d Premier outfit Redgate Clayton, thanks to goals from Matt Barlow and Connor Jones, with Martin Jackson on the scoresheet for Redgate.

Silverdale Athletic heaped more misery on Florence by putting 20 goals past them without reply. Florence are bottom of the Premier Division table, having lost all 11 league games, while Silverdale are top and soon stamped their authority on the game, racing into a 9-0 half-time lead, with 11 more following in the second half.

Kingsley Gyamfi led the way with five of the goals, Dom Thorley helped himself to four and there were hat-tricks for Alistair Cope and Jordan Hewitt. The scoring was rounded off by Alex Headley (2), Reece White, Charlie Ryles and Jeff Jolly.

Hanley Town were 4-1 winners at home to Whittingto­n. Hakeem Suleman (2), Hayden Wright and Ben Susca were their scorers, while Eastwood Hanley also scored four times, with Kieran Lawton, Tommy Cooke, Mike Marren and Andy Sherratt earning them a 4-1 home win over Foley Meir Reserves, but Leek CSOB Reserves were beaten 6-0 at Brereton Social.

Abbey Hulton United were involved in a high scoring game at Newport Town, but returned with a place in the next round following a 9-4 victory.

Rob Veskiamae (3), Sam Orme (2), Regam Lymer, Josh Graham, James Redford and Louis Seymour were the scorers for Abbey.

Redgate Clayton Reserves beat Eastwood Hanley Reserves 4-2.

Alex Saunders, Jordan Condliffe, Lewis Huswitt and Harry Bickerton scored for Redgate, with Mat Fern scoring both goals for Eastwood.

Stafford Town also booked their place in the next round with a 4-3 home win over Walsall Phoenix at Evans Park.

Harry Bowers, scored for Stafford in the first half and added his second after the break, with Tom Duffy and Lenny Baker also on the scoresheet.

Chesterton were 3-0 winners at Milton United, thanks to goals from Brad Kelly, Matt Clowes and Josh Brown and Market Drayton Tigers were 4-1 winners at Lichfield City. Michael Mackintosh scored a hat-trick for the Tigers.

Two games went ahead in Division One and Staffordsh­ire Moorlands lifted themselves off the foot of the table with a 5-4 win at Walsall Phoenix Res.

Dec Heath (2), Alex Cimino (2) and Dan Bentley were their scorers.

Keele University were 5-1 home winners over Norton Wanderers. Akoufe Hizazi (2), Jack Wills, David Mosley and Oliver Tomlins scored for Keele with Mitch Marcisz on target for Norton.

AFC Alsager missed a chance to increase their lead at the top of Division Two after being held to a 1-1 draw by Feathersto­ne. Jordan Rigby was the scorer for Alsager, while James Platt scored for Audley Res in their 1-1 draw at Hawkins Sports. Cheadle Town Reserves were beaten 2-0 by Acorn Albion.

There was no Premier Division action, but the table has been reduced to 15 teams following the resignatio­n of Newcastle Town.
