Another win in Ladies’ fine run

-

Sandwell Ladies .............. 2 Leek Town Ladies ........... 4

LEEK Town Ladies continue to sweep all before them, Sandwell the lastest victims.

The Ladies made it eight league wins out of eight in West Midlands Regional Women’s League Division One thanks to two goals from Lacey-may Smith, and one each from substitutes Jenny Hesketh and Bethany Cottrell.

The Blues started well, putting early pressure on Sandwell with both Chantelle Gallagher and Rehanne Mellor coming close in the opening minutes.

After 12 minutes, Leek won a free kick and Lacey-may Smith beat the Sandwell keeper from 25 yards with a great strike to put Leek 1-0 up.

Three minutes later Rhian Morris ran through to meet a cross from Alice Painter and got a shot away but over.

Another free kick for Leek, this time by Gallagher, looked a goal all the way but the keeper produced a good save.

Sandwell then played some good football and equalised to bring the score level.

After Mellor shot over the bar, Kirsty Ryder supplied Mellor again and her shot seemed to hit the net just under the bar before being cleared but no goal was given.

Sandwell started the second half well and put the Leek defence under pressure and a ball across the Leek defence hit a Leek player and deflected into the Leek net to put Sandwell in front.

Hesketh, Cottrell and

Jules Kendrick were then introduced by Leek, who played some good football looking for the equaliser and Gallagher found Lacey-may Smith, who fired into the Sandwell net from an angle.

On the next Leek attack left back Emma Smith had a good overlapping run down the wing before crossing the ball into the danger area, which was met by Hesketh to put Leek back in front.

Another free kick was delivered by LM Smith into the Sandwell six-yard box to be converted by Cottrell.

BLUES: Austin, Brown, Salehancock, Maya, E Smith, Morris, Ryder, Painter, Mellor, LM Smith, Gallagher, Hesketh, Kendrick, Cottrell, Kelsall.
