UNSUNG he­roes from across the Staffordshire Moor­lands are to be hon­oured for their ef­forts

Coura­geous chil­dren, car­ers and char­ity fund-rais­ers are just some of the peo­ple set to be recog­nised by a new com­mu­nity awards for the Staffordshire Moor­lands.

The Post and Times and Staffordshire Moor­lands District Coun­cil have joined forces to launch Moor­lands He­roes, and we’re call­ing on our read­ers to put for­ward peo­ple from within their com­mu­nity.

Each week we will be telling the sto­ries of our nom­i­nees, with short­listed groups and in­di­vid­u­als in­vited to a glit­ter­ing awards evening at Al­ton Tow­ers in Jan­uary 2019.

Read­ers who want to make a nom­i­na­tion for the Moor­lands He­roes Awards should email les­lie.jack­son@reach­plc.com or jen­nifer.am­phlett@reach­plc.com with ‘Moor­lands He­roes’ in the sub­ject box. They should in­clude their name and con­tact tele­phone number, plus the de­tails of the per­son they would like to put for­ward, and prefer­ably, a re­cent photo.

Child or Teenager of Courage: This cat­e­gory will recog­nise any young­ster who has over­come ad­ver­sity or shown out­stand­ing brav­ery and ma­tu­rity be­yond their years.

Carer of the Year: This will recog­nise a team, fam­ily or in­di­vid­ual demon­strat­ing duty or de­vo­tion be­yond the norm. this cat­e­gory is not to paid, pro­fes­sional car­ers.

Fund-raiser of the Year: This cat­e­gory will recog­nise a tire­less char­ity fund-raiser of any age and for any cause.

Bright Star of the Year: Open to peo­ple un­der 21. It is de­signed to recog­nise peo­ple who have shown ded­i­ca­tion and dis­tinc­tion in their cho­sen field, which could in­clude ed­u­ca­tion, a hobby or vol­un­tary work.

Adult Achiever of the Year: To recog­nise some­one over 21 who achieves great things in the work­place, ex­cels at their pro­fes­sion, has achieved dis­tinc­tion in a hobby or pas­time or who has gone be­yond the call of duty to nur­ture or in­spire oth­ers.

Com­mu­nity or Vol­un­tary Group of the Year: We want to hear from groups which have worked tire­lessly to im­prove the qual­ity of life for peo­ple in the com­mu­nity.

Spe­cial Recog­ni­tion: This will recog­nise peo­ple whose ef­forts and achieve­ments do not fit into other cat­e­gories.
