-

A WOMAN died and three people were injured in a crash on the A53 Leek to Buxton road.

All three emergency services were sent to the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of an RTC involving two cars near to The Knights Table on the A53 Buxton Road, shortly after 5pm on Saturday, November 10.

“Four ambulances, a paramedic officer and a Basics emergency doctor responded to the scene. An off-duty doctor who came across the RTC, stopped to assist ambulance crews with treatment on scene.

“Crews arrived to find two cars which had been involved in a serious incident and worked quickly to provide emergency treatment to four patients on scene.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of ambulance staff and the doctors, nothing could be done to save a woman and she was confirmed dead on scene.

“A second woman and a man suffered serious injuries and required advanced trauma care on scene by ambulance staff before both were conveyed on blue lights to a major trauma centre for further emergency care.

“A second man was given treatment on scene for his injuries before being taken to the same hospital.”

A Staffordshire Police spokeswoman said: “Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Leek on Saturday, November 10.

“The family of the woman have been notified and are currently being supported by specially-trained officers. Formal identification is due to take place.

“Three other people were taken to hospital where their condition is stable.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 547 of 10 November.”

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Leek and Longnor crews attended the collision which involved two vehicles. Two casualties were extricated.”
