Christmas festival and a village fair

VILLAGERS in Onecote are to stage two events this weekend.

St Luke’s Church will be the location of a Christmas tree festival, while the village hall will be the home of a craft fair.

The Christmas tree festival will start on Friday, November 23 at 6pm when the Christmas tree lights will be switched on.

Santa will be in attendance and will give out free presents for the children during the Friday night event.

There will be carols around the tree with mulled wine and mince pies served. The theme of the festival is Peace to commemorat­e the centenary of the end of World War One.

All the trees will be decorated by members of the community and will include War horse, land girls, war time pictures and letters and war time Christmas.

The church will be open on Saturday, November 24 between 11am and 5pm and on Sunday, November 25 between 11am and 4pm.

Stalls at the craft fair, which will be held on Sunday, November 25 between 11am and 4pm, will include knitted toys, home made fudge, spray paintings, small wood crafts and baubles.

On Sunday evening an Advent Carol Service will be held at the church at 7.30pm.
