Dancing ‘Warriorz’ claim first spot in dance contest

A DANCE group based in Leek and Biddulph has shown off their skills at a major competitio­n.

Tribe Dance Academy took part in Calling U Out’s street dance competitio­n in Bury.

The Moorlands dance academy specialise in street dance but offers a wide range of styles.

The teacher is Laura Smith who founded the school approximat­ely two years ago. They meet at Cave Fitness in Salisbury Street, Leek and Biddulph High School.

The competitio­n was highly competitiv­e with huge numbers and dance schools from all over the country and as far away as Scotland attending the event.

The academy’s first team Warriorz have been together for around six months and was full of dancers who have never competed before and some only dancing for a few months.

They competed in the Under 10 category and were awarded first place. The dancers were Phoebe Potts, Poppy Fallows, Hollie Thompson, Nula Gallimore, Daisy Edwards, Sasha Emery, Brooke Massey and Alice Bell.

The second team Origin had mainly new dancers in and they came third in the under 12 category. Dancers were Ruby Love, Madeline Burnham, Florence Elliott, Paige Copestake, Hannah Potts, Lucy Forrester, Yasmin Morris, Lilly Allen, Holly Allen, Poppy Allen and Chloe Olsen.

For the third team, Kulture, it was their second competitio­n competing in under 14s and this time they were placed second which showed their big improvemen­t. Dancers were Ellie Taylor, Charlotte Brereton, Maisie Barber, Molly Parker, Imogen Moran, Willow Tatton, Taila Forrester, Aleiha Morris, Emma Morris and Abbie Baker.

To add to the success of the day Ruby Love and Madeline Burnham competed together to beat over 70 dancers to gain fifth place in their duo. Laura said: “They have worked so hard, remaining motivated and focused.

“The whole of Tribe dance academy danced their hearts out and demonstrat­ed fantastic sportsmans­hip throughout, supporting their team mates and other schools and dancers.

“The Leek groups are now available to provide entertainm­ent at events that organisati­ons are putting on across the district. We are available free of charge for our demonstrat­ions.”
