Danc­ing ‘War­riorz’ claim first spot in dance con­test

A DANCE group based in Leek and Bid­dulph has shown off their skills at a ma­jor com­pe­ti­tion.

Tribe Dance Academy took part in Call­ing U Out’s street dance com­pe­ti­tion in Bury.

The Moor­lands dance academy spe­cialise in street dance but of­fers a wide range of styles.

The teacher is Laura Smith who founded the school ap­prox­i­mately two years ago. They meet at Cave Fit­ness in Sal­is­bury Street, Leek and Bid­dulph High School.

The com­pe­ti­tion was highly com­pet­i­tive with huge num­bers and dance schools from all over the coun­try and as far away as Scot­land at­tend­ing the event.

The academy’s first team War­riorz have been to­gether for around six months and was full of dancers who have never com­peted be­fore and some only danc­ing for a few months.

They com­peted in the Un­der 10 cat­e­gory and were awarded first place. The dancers were Phoebe Potts, Poppy Fal­lows, Hol­lie Thomp­son, Nula Gal­limore, Daisy Ed­wards, Sasha Emery, Brooke Massey and Alice Bell.

The sec­ond team Ori­gin had mainly new dancers in and they came third in the un­der 12 cat­e­gory. Dancers were Ruby Love, Made­line Burn­ham, Florence El­liott, Paige Copes­take, Han­nah Potts, Lucy For­rester, Yas­min Mor­ris, Lilly Allen, Holly Allen, Poppy Allen and Chloe Olsen.

For the third team, Kul­ture, it was their sec­ond com­pe­ti­tion com­pet­ing in un­der 14s and this time they were placed sec­ond which showed their big im­prove­ment. Dancers were El­lie Tay­lor, Char­lotte Br­ere­ton, Maisie Bar­ber, Molly Parker, Imo­gen Mo­ran, Wil­low Tat­ton, Taila For­rester, Aleiha Mor­ris, Emma Mor­ris and Ab­bie Baker.

To add to the suc­cess of the day Ruby Love and Made­line Burn­ham com­peted to­gether to beat over 70 dancers to gain fifth place in their duo. Laura said: “They have worked so hard, re­main­ing mo­ti­vated and fo­cused.

“The whole of Tribe dance academy danced their hearts out and demon­strated fan­tas­tic sports­man­ship through­out, sup­port­ing their team mates and other schools and dancers.

“The Leek groups are now avail­able to pro­vide en­ter­tain­ment at events that or­gan­i­sa­tions are putting on across the dis­trict. We are avail­able free of charge for our demon­stra­tions.”
