Six of the best for Leek in cup

-

LEEK Town Ladies took their league form into the Staffs Challenge Cup on Sunday as they beat Pelsall Villa 6-0 to set up a meeting with Stoke City Ladies on December 16.

Leek went onto the attack from the start and worked a chance for Rehanne Mellor who got a good shot away saved by the keeper. After 18 minutes, excellent work by Kirsty Ryder in midfield broke up play and supplied Michaela Lockett, who ran on to open the scoring for Leek.

Pelsall defended very well to prevent Leek from adding to their score until the 28th minute when a good through ball from Jules Kendrick found Mellor and she finished really well to double the score for Leek.

From a Leek corner, Kendrick herself came close with a good header just wide.

A good run out of defence by Emma Smith found Lockett who used her speed to go past two defenders before supplying Chantelle Gallagher and with a clinical finish, Gallagher scored Leek’s third goal.

Gallagher herself turned provider supplying the ever running Katie Gibbons with a defence splitting pass and a good finish from Gibbons saw the fourth goal.

Right back Chloe Brown then set midfielder Rhian Morris away and she ran through the opposition defence and slotted the ball beyond the reach of the keeper for the fifth and the sixth was a good headed goal by Gallagher.

BLUES: Austin, Brown, Sale-hancock, Copeland, Kelsall, Ryder, Kendrick, Lockett, Gibbons, Cottrell, Mellor, LM Smith, Gallagher, Painter, E Smith, Morris.
