‘Events such as these are the fu­ture of our mar­kets’

A STAFFORD­SHIRE Moor­lands town is set to hold a Christ­mas Twi­light Mar­ket.

The mar­ket, co-or­di­nated by the dis­trict coun­cil, is set to take place in Leek be­tween 6pm and 9pm on Fri­day De­cem­ber 7.

The event, which will be held in the town’s But­ter and Tres­tle Mar­kets and fol­lows the suc­cess­ful Christ­mas Lights Switch-on, will fea­ture stalls sell­ing tra­di­tional sea­sonal gifts - as well as street food and a li­cenced bar.

There will also be Christ­mas craft ac­tiv­i­ties cour­tesy of Cab­bage Rose, live mu­sic by Leek band the Dead­beat Dam­sels and Santa him­self is set to be mak­ing an ap­pear­ance.

Coun­cil­lor Ed­win Wain, Cabi­net Mem­ber for Plan­ning, De­vel­op­ment and Prop­erty,

said: “Our mar­kets are go­ing from strength to strength which is great news for shop­pers and traders and our lo­cal econ­omy.

“We are all keen to de­velop the po­ten­tial mar­kets have to con­tinue to con­trib­ute to vi­brant and thriv­ing town cen­tres so we’re ex­cited by our lat­est ini­tia­tive - the Christ­mas Twi­light Mar­ket.

“It prom­ises to be a lively, so­cial event blend­ing shop­ping and so­cial­is­ing and we’re all very much look­ing for­ward to it. Events such as this are the fu­ture for our mar­kets so I hope ev­ery­one comes along and sup­ports their lo­cal traders while hav­ing a great evening.

“The idea is that we hold more events like this dur­ing the sum­mer months next year so we are urg­ing peo­ple to join us to make this mar­ket the first of many more to come.”

Ear­lier this month the Post & Times re­ported how both Leek and Chea­dle mar­kets had seen an in­crease in the num­ber of traders and stalls. A Stafford­shire Moor­lands Dis­trict Coun­cil spokes­woman added: “It fol­lows a strong per­for­mance for the town’s mar­kets which has seen the num­ber of stalls on the Wed­nes­day in­door mar­ket in­crease by over 200. The out­door mar­ket has seen a sim­i­lar in­crease and the num­ber to traders tak­ing stalls in the Fri­day Tres­tle mar­ket has grown by over 40. The Fine Food mar­ket is also con­tin­u­ing to at­tract an in­creas­ing num­ber of traders with over 100 reg­u­lar at­ten­ders.”

There is free park­ing on Stafford­shire Moor­lands Dis­trict Coun­cil car parks from 3.30pm.

The coun­cil has also an­nounced free park­ing on coun­cil-owned car parks in the town on De­cem­ber 1, De­cem­ber 8, De­cem­ber 15 and De­cem­ber 22.

Free park­ing is also avail­able in both Bid­dulph and Chea­dle on se­lected days over the com­ing month.
