Sil­ver medal­list David has pupils jump­ing for joy

SPORTS­MAN David Smith took a visit to Ilam School in his stride as part of a cam­paign to raise the im­por­tance of healthy liv­ing and ex­er­cise.

The high jumper who com­peted in the 2014 and 2018 Com­mon­wealth games – as well as tak­ing home sil­ver in the 2017 Bri­tish cham­pi­onships – helped take the chil­dren through a cir­cuits course to pro­mote the im­por­tance of fit­ness.

David also gave the pupils an insight into his daily train­ing rou­tine, as he looks to rep­re­sent Team GB in the 2020 Olympics.

Head­teacher, Rachel Lin­ton, said: “The chil­dren loved lis­ten­ing to David talk about his achieve­ments, how he got to where he is to­day, his day-to-day rou­tine and the im­por­tance of fol­low­ing a healthy life style.

“All the pupils also en­joyed be­ing put through their paces with a high in­ten­sity fit­ness cir­cuit, which in­cluded spotty dogs, press ups, star jumps and moun­tain climbers all last­ing one minute each.”
