Talks are ongoing with landowners
management measures in the catchment of the village brook. We are looking for things to be in place in months rather than years.”
Four properties at risk of flooding have been identified in the village. While the natural flood measures will look to ease problems, water flow on the brook – a centrepiece of the village – will not be put at risk. Mr Jebb added: “It’s an attractive part of the village and we wouldn’t do anything to stop it.”
Flood waters brought the village to a standstill in 2004 and 2012.
Along with the action group, the county council’s flood risk management team has been working with Amey Consulting, Arup, and the Trent Rivers Trust.
Helen Fisher, cabinet member for highways and transport at the county council, said: “We are in discussions with local landowners about the possibility of constructing some natural flood management measures, such as leaky dams, wetlands, and woody debris.
“These could be used to reduce the rate that water flows down into the village. In addition, some properties will also be offered individual flood resilience measures, such as water-resistant doors, as an extra precaution.”
