AFTER a warm welcome at our meeting, we noted apologies, and there were no members with birthdays in November.
The business of the meeting included information about the County Christmas Carol Service at Lichfield Cathedral, which is always popular.
Some ladies have been growing oak tree saplings over the past months and these were brought along to the meeting so two could be selected to be planted in the National Forest in the Spring.
We debated further our own centenary celebrations next year. As part of this, all our ladies are busy knitting four-inch squares to make rugs for premature babies at the hospital.
With various events happening locally for Christmas coming up, and building work on the Chapel due to be completed shortly, there is plenty to look forward to.
We also heard about a painting competition, the centenary quiz, the National Federation AGM in Bournemouth which it is our turn to send a delegate.
The speaker for the evening was Peter Davies from Leek Food Bank. Our ladies had taken tins and packets for Peter and he thanked us. He explained the reasons people become in need and what the Food Bank can do to help.
The Food Bank is located in West Street, Leek and is open Tuesday to Friday. His talk was very interesting and produced much debate and questions.
Our trips for the year are now completed and plans are in hand to arrange next year’s outings. Details will be available in January. Bookings as usual through Sheila on 01782 502278.
