MASSIVE TOYS DONATION

-

MORE than 500 toys and games have been collected by a village group and its local Co-op.

The volunteer-run Werrington Young Persons Support Group has once again teamed up with the Co-op to deliver a sleigh-load of smiles to disadvantaged children and young people spending Christmas in shelters due to domestic abuse.

Youngsters with incurable or life-limiting illnesses in and around the Staffordshire Moorlands and Stoke-ontrent will also get help.

More than 20 Co-op food stores took part in the annual Kidz2kidz toy appeal which will spread festive cheer to hundreds of children, and their families this Christmas. The collection has been described by volunteers at the charity as the “best ever”.

Chairman of Kidz2kidz, David Shaw, said: “I do not know where to start in thanking the Co-op, its members, customers and the wider community for what can only be described as an amazing toy collection.

“The Child Protection Officers who distribute the toys for us said that they had never seen anything like it before – some were moved to tears. The response has been wonderful and has made this our best year ever.”

Alan Smith, area manager for the Co-op, said: “Connecting communities and bringing people together is at the heart of the Co-op. These donations will help to make a difference to young people in our community who may otherwise have not shared in the magic of Christmas.

“We are really grateful for the generous support – it is amazing what we can achieve when we work together.”
