A NEW Year Market held in a Moorlands village raised more than £560 on Saturday.

The market, which was held between 10am and 3pm, took place in Alstonefield Village Hall and attracted many different stallholders offering high quality goods.

The event, which was also attended by many visitors from across the district, was the seventh year the hall committee had organised the market.

Stalls selling all kinds of goods, including vintage clothes, jewellery, antique objects d’art, hand-made cards, crafts and flowers, items made from willow, cakes and books.

Live Festive Music was supplied throughout the day by Cantiga, a violin and accordion duo, while refreshments were served from the kitchen.

Secretary of the village hall, Margaret Cohen, said: “The market attracted a lot of people and proved highly successful. We also had many different stallholders this year and the atmosphere was brilliant.

“This was the seventh year we’ve done this now. We started initially to fundraising for an extension in 2012, but the event proved so popular we carried on with it.

“The New Year Market is an excellent event for the community and brings in many visitors to the area.

“The day made £562 in ,profit which will probably go to repairing the car park of the hall.”
