Moorlands MP backs Prime Minister’s NHS Long Term Plan
THE Prime Minister’s announcement regarding the launch of the NHS Long Term Plan has been welcomed by Staffordshire Moorlands MP Karen Bradley
The Government plans an investment of £20.5 billion a year in real terms by 2023-24.
Over the last six months, the NHS has drawn in more than 2,500 responses from individuals and groups to its calls for evidence, representing more than 3.5 million people. This has now been translated by working groups, led by clinicians, into a detailed plan to ensure the NHS is always there for everyone.
There will be a new focus on prevention – with £4.5 billion being invested in primary and community care – personal responsibility and promoting good health, and more rapid diagnostics and new treatments that will improve the care people receive.
Mrs Bradley said: “I welcome the announcement of the NHS Long Term Plan. This is a historic moment for patients in Staffordshire Moorlands and across our nation which will protect the health service now and for generations to come – ensuring that the NHS is always there for you and your family.”
In the coming months, the local NHS will work with communities to shape local service plans, setting out how the NHS Long-term Plan vision will be delivered across the country.
The Long Term Plan for the NHS has been developed and driven forward by clinicians, patients and medical experts. From birth, through the challenges that life brings and into old age, the plan will ensure that the NHS is:
▶ Providing the best maternity care in the world by ensuring every baby gets the best start in life by continuing to improve maternity safety and providing greater mental health support to new parents.
▶ Supporting ageing and increasing independence by supporting people to age well by bringing different health and care teams together.
▶ Improving outcomes for all major conditions through better prevention, detection, treatment and recovery from serious diseases.
▶ Increasing the NHS workforce by improving access to mental health, primary care and community services, with tens of thousands more doctors, nurses and other health professionals.
▶ Bringing the NHS into the digital age by rolling out new digital technologies.
▶ Cutting waste across the NHS, making back office savings of more than £700million across the NHS.
