Police clamp down on village yobs after incident rise

OFFICERS from Moorlands Neighbourhood Policing Team are continuing to crack down on antisocial behaviour in the Werrington area following concerns from local residents.

Local officers have dealt with a number of reports recently of groups of youngsters throwing stones, banging on residents’ doors, consuming alcohol, shouting and swearing and running in to the main road into oncoming traffic.

To tackle the issue a number of dispersal orders have recently been enforced in Werrington, whereby officers have the powers to tackle anyone aged 10 or over who has committed or is suspected of committing anti-social behaviour, or likely to cause harassment and distress to others.

Police can order an individual to leave the area by the most appropriate means.

Werrington PCSO, Stephen Sherratt, said: “We’ve been listening to issues raised by local residents and we want to reassure them that Moorlands officers and PCSOS are working hard to address these concerns and take appropriate action.

“So far we have issued several Section 35 dispersal notices around Werrington and seven Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCS) have been placed on individuals with more due to be served over the next few days.

“One individual has breached his ABC and has now been served with a Community Protection Warning and we’re looking at issuing more of these notices on other offenders.

“I’d like to appeal to parents and guardians to ensure that they know where their children are, what they are up to and who they are with.
