Major Moorlands road to be closed
MOTORISTS using a busy Staffordshire Moorlands road are advised to expect delays as work takes place to replace damaged electrical infrastructure, writes TOM BURNETT.
One lane is set to be shut on the A520 Cheddleton Road in Leek during the work, near Britannia Roundabout, which is due to take place between today, January 16 and Friday, January 18.
The work is set to be carried out between 9.30am and 3pm each day, according to Staffordshire County Council, which said delays are likely as a result.
An area near the Britannia Roundabout on the outskirts of Leek remains taped off with ‘electricity warning tape’ following an accident earlier this year – which also caused significant damage to the barrier near Britannia on the side of the road heading into Leek.
It appears the work is connected to this, with the county council saying the work is for the ‘replacement of damaged/life expired lighting unit requiring urgent replacement.’
The A520 is the main route between Leek and villages including Leekbrook, Cheddleton and Wetley Rocks.
Other scheduled/ongoing roadworks in the surrounding area where delays are likely or expected over the coming week include:
Biddulph: Multi-way traffic signals on Newtown Road near Park View on January 17
Blackshaw Moor: Multi-way traffic lights at the junction of the A53 Buxton Road and Thorncliffe Lane from January 14 until January 25
