SWYTHAMLEY WI

OUR cheery members met for an informal faith supper this month, meaning that the business was swiftly dealt with and we could tuck into a variety of delectable dishes.

The main item on the agenda was the voting for one of the diverse topics on the NFWI Resolution Shortlist: Improving Plant Biosecurity in the UK, Trees-improving the Natural Landscape, Pelvic Floor Education, Suffering in Silence; end the taboo around menstrual health, a call against the decline in local bus services, Don’t fear the smear.

Voting over, our president, Angela Willmott, led a short discussion on the forthcoming events, including those to celebrate the centenary of the SFWI.

Tuesday, March 19 – Spring Council Meeting with the afternoon speaker, TV presenter/journalist, Jenny Bond.

Tuesday, April 16 – at Stafford Showground, Centenary Homes and Gardens Day with speakers Sir Richard Fitzherbert of Tissington Hall and Martin Roberts of TV show Homes under the Hammer.

Wednesday, June 5 – the annual 2019 NFWI meeting in Bournemouth.

After our treasurer Gill Edwards had finished collecting our subscriptions, we went on to have a fascinating exchange of old remedies to cure a multitude of ailments - kidney stones, ringworm, boils, sprains and the common cold.

There will be no meeting in February but we meet as usual at the Swythamley and Heaton Centre on March 11 for the AGM and social evening.

In April we will be taking a trip to Lorna Knight Sewing Academy-car share to be arranged. If anyone is interested in attending an event as a guest, they will be made most welcome.
