Golden Lion beat Bulls Head to go back to the top of table

BULLS Head entertaine­d Golden Lion in a seven-goal thriller at Back Lane in the Leek and District Sunday League.

Scott Dixon opened for the visitors after 10 minutes, only for Nathan Smith to level from the spot seven minutes later,.

However, Mike Harrison (20) restored Lion’s lead to take them to the interval. Jack Curwen levelled five minutes into the second half and it remained even for 20 minutes, but Dave Short (70 and 79) scored a brace to put Lion in command of the game.

Billy Harding (80) replied a minute later to leave a tense 10 minutes for Lion, but they hung on to go top of the table.

Dyers Arms demolished bottom side Breaks Athletic, scoring a dozen without reply.

Kieran Millward (11, 18,

28, 35 and 87) opening and finished the romp with a magnificen­t five goals.

Just behind him was Liam Davies (14, 21, 46 and 58) who scored four by the hour mark. Sam Potts (41 and 68) netted one in each half with Declan Heath (61) getting in on the action with a single. Dyers move up to a place to fifth spot.

Waterhouse­s continue their successful new year with a 7-1 win away to Breaks FC to lift them up a place to third.

Adam Taylor opened for them in the 18th minute with Andy Mayer replying for Breaks four minutes later. Taylor (34) completed his brace to give Waterhouse­s the lead at the interval. Waterhouse­s piled on the pressure in the final quarter as Tom Swann (78) hit a single either side of a brace each from Martin Hudson (65 and 87) and Dave Shenton (79 and 83).

AFC Wellington also moved up a place after gaining their second win of the season, beating Vale Hoppers by the odd goal in five. James Greener opened for Hoppers after 15 minutes, only for Pete Bassett to level on the halfhour.

Zack Oakes put Hoppers back into the lead in the 40th minute, but Wellington were then gifted a penalty which Benji Rooke duly converted.

The wind was to Wellington’s advantage in the second half and they had a decent run of play with Jack Stubbs grabbing the winner.

The weather may have been mild at Buxton, but the game between Buxton Stags and Prince of Wales was abandoned after 10 minutes due to the high winds.
