Bakewell market

AN ENCOURAGING start to the new year with 549 Cattle and 2,510 Sheep on offer.

Buyers out in force eager to refill the pipeline, whether it be at the abattoir or in the feeding system for Store Cattle and Calves.

Only 211 Store & Breeding Cattle forward, possibly as a consequence of testing delays. A modest entry, but well received by the assembled company who had come from near and far to bid for Bakewell Cattle.

Steers to £1,170, Heifers £1,215 and Feeding Bulls £820. Cows & Calves to £920.

The results speak for themselves, if you have Store Cattle to sell, do not hesitate to give us a call.

A good show of 132 Finished Cattle selling on a better trade than anticipated with top figures 246p and £1,509. The 54 Heifers averaged 197.3 pence – a good result which demonstrates the solid trade.

113 OTM and Feeding Cows with the best on offer to 157p and £1,276. A satisfactory average at 100.9 pence.

A useful selection of 93 Calves with Bulls peaking at £405 and Heifers £175.

Turning to the Sheep section, things were busy with 1,833 finished Hoggs forward. Not quite up to last week’s standard with more hill bred types in the sample. Top figures 239p/kg and £119.84.

The SQQ average looking respectable at 196.4p.

And finally, 677 Cull Sheep with trade firm rather than exciting. Top figure £101 for Ewes with the average at £58.43.
