LUCY A CUT ABOVE!
A YOUNG Blackshaw Moor schoolgirl has had her long hair cut short to help people undergoing cancer treatment.
Thoughtful Lucy Podmore has had her hair cut so she could donate it to the Little Princess Trust.
The 10-year-old has donated her hair to the charity, which provides wigs made of real hair for children and young adults who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illness. Lucy has also raised more than £500 for charity on her Justgiving page for her effort.
Lucy decided to have hair cut in memory of a friend who died following a brain tumour.
Proud mum, Kerry, said: “I’m super proud of what she’s done. Lucy is a selfless young lady with a massive heart and it is lovely what she has done. Her friend died 18 months ago and she has wanted to have her hair cut for charity in her memory for about a year.
“I decided to wait to be 100 per cent certain that she did not want to change her mind, but she was adamant that she wanted to do it. Lucy has now received a certificate from the Little Princess Trust.”
Lucy, who attends St Mary’s Catholic Academy in Leek, said: “It was a shock at first to have my long hair cut, but I wanted to do it in memory of my friend.
“I am now getting used to it being shorter.
“I am very happy that my hair and money will help someone who is suffering from an illness.”
The haircut took place at Royston Blythe hairdressers in Wolverhampton along with entertainer Richard Cadell and popular TV puppet Sooty, who was starring in Wolverhampton’s Pantomime, coming along to lend a hand.
The hairdressers said they were proud of Lucy and her new bob.
A spokesman said: “It was a special occasion when the fabulous Lucy visited Nick Malenko for a stunning hair makeover.
“Lucy was joined by the legendary Sooty and Richard Cadell to mark the occasion.”
