Towers eyes more fun with two new youngsters’ rides
Plans lodged for 6.2-metre high attractions
FAMILY attraction Cbeebies Land is set to get bigger and better at Alton Towers – after plans were lodged for new rides.
Two new ‘junior drop tower rides’ are planned for land currently used as a buggy park and a queuing area for Mr Bloom’s allotment show.
The names of both – which will be 6.2-metres high and hold seven riders at a time – have not yet been revealed.
Drop tower rides typically involve riders being lifted to the top of a tower then released towards the bottom of the ride and then back to the top.
It comes as Alton Towers has warned this part of Cbeebies Land is ‘experiencing low footfall.’
Now visitors can have their say after plans for the ride and an operator’s booth were lodged with Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
They state: “The two drop tower rides are aimed at a junior audience.
“Commercially this area of the resort is currently experiencing low footfall and the new attraction will enhance Alton Towers’ popular Cbeebies Land.
“The new attraction features a 30-minute queue line accommodating 160 people.
“The space is currently under-utilised and is within a landscaped area. The existing queue line is not used to full capacity.”
Cbeebies Land is made up of 14 rides and attractions, including the Furchester Hotel live show. Rides include Octonauts rollercoaster adventure, Postman Pat Parcel Post and the Tree Fu Tom Training Camp.
Visitors say they cannot wait for the new ride to open.
Jo Boam, aged 40, from Leek, who has two children aged five and three, said: “We love Cbeebies Land and it is great that they keep bringing in new things for the younger children.
“It makes it better value for money if there is more to do.”
Mum-of-two Deborah Boden’s children will soon turn four and two. The 36-year-old, also from Leek, said: “We took our daughter to Cbeebies Land a couple of years ago and she absolutely loved it. It’s not somewhere we go regularly due to the expense but now our little boy is getting to the age where he will enjoy it too we will be going again. It’s great news the park is investing in more rides for their age range.”
