United overcome a tricky test to reach cup last four

CHEADLE United and Loggerhead­s booked their places in the Staffs FA TB Williamson Cup semi-finals with victory over Abbots Bromley and Littleton Arms, respective­ly.

United faced a tricky tie against Uttoxeter and District League Division Two promotion hopefuls Abbots Bromley, but goals from Dan Carr, Callum Downie and Steve Booth earned the Moorlands outfit a 3-1 home win at Thorley Drive. Sam Chilvers scored the consolatio­n effort for Bromley.

Loggerhead­s were 3-1 winners at home to Littleton Arms from the Cannock Chase League.

Nick Jones, Ryan Pickup and Kurt Beaver were the scores for Loggerhead­s.

AFC Moorlands failed in their bid to make it a hat-trick of victories as they lost 2-0 at South Staffs side Cheslyn Hay.

Continuing on the cup theme, and Forsbrook-based Butchers Arms made progress in the League Cup by reaching the fourth-round stage with a 3-1 win at fellow Premier Division side Staffordsh­ire Knot.

The game was level at the break, but Butchers went on to win the game with goals from Ryan Miszkiel (2) and Danny Glover, with Kris Harrison on the scoresheet for Knot.

Holditch United are into the second round of the PDSL/ City Traders Division Two Cup with a 9-0 win at AFC Click.

Two Premier Division and two Division One matches were postponed, but four went ahead in the PDSL/CITY Traders League Division Two.

Moorcroft United held on to their 12-point lead at the top of the table with a 5-1 home win over The Windmill.

Petrut Socaciu netted a hat-trick, with Sam Hati and Khabab Abdel-karim scoring singles, with Simon Minshall on target for the Windmill from Werrington.

Keele University remain second with three games in hand on Moorcroft following their 3-1 home win over Fulford United.

The village outfit were leading 1-0 at half-time, thanks to a goal from Vinny Gerrard, but Keele rallied in the second half to win the game with goals from Joe Gaisford (2) and Joseph Mason.

Social Services chalked up their eighth league win of the season, beating Holditch Club 5-2.

James Whitehurst led the way with two of the goals, while Mark Cumberbatc­h, Huw James and Adam Parkinson netted singles.

Black Cock moved up to fourth place with a 4-1 home win over Red Lion Hartshill.

The Blythe Bridge side scored through Ryan Holmes, Liam Ferneyhoug­h, Shaun Searle and Charlie Lockley, with Leighton Jones on the scoresheet for Red Lion.

■ IT’S advantage Churnet Valley who have taken over at the top of the UTTOXETER AND DISTRICT LEAGUE Division One following a 5-2 win at Cheadle-based Bird in Hand.

Valley took advantage of being the only match in the division to move above Cheadle Rovers by a point.

Tommy Booth, Chris Rowe, Matt Sherratt, Jack Derbyshire and Joe Proctor scored for Churnet Valley, with Matt Fitzpatric­k and Ash Smith replying for Bird in Hand.

There is also a new leader in Division Two, with Bramshall taking over at the top from Abbots Bromley who were involved in county cup action.

John Thacker scored five times for Bramshall in an 8-0 home win over Sudbury FC. Luke Bebbington, Wayne Tostevin and Keiran Coates were their other scorers.

Doveridge remain third, five points behind the new leaders but with four games in hand, following their 2-1 home win over Tuns FC 2014.

Mark Fellows and Ricky Seyman scored for Doveridge, with Alex Wright netting for Tuns.

Simon Nagington (2), Ian Johnson (2) and Richard Potter scored for Stone Town in their 5-2 win at Stone Outlanes (Adam Cope 2).

JCB Lakeside are through to the Division One Cup semifinal with a 6-0 win over Tean Albion. Matt Redshaw (2), Doug Price, Dan Boot, Mitch Lacey and Mike Neary were their scorers.

Cheadle Rovers beat Bulls Head 4-2 and Uttoxeter Town beat Tean Rangers 4-2 to reach the third round of the Ken Green Memorial Trophy.

Matt Davis, Charlie Goldstraw, Fraser Bradbury and Adam Keates scored for Rovers, while Evan Richardson (2) and Matt Mcniece (2) secured the win for Town.
