Heartache for Waterhouses as Ellis hits last gasp winner

-

PRINCE of Wales entertained in-form Waterhouses at Birchall in the Leek and District Sunday League and it turned out to be a five-goal thriller.

Stu Robinson opened for the away side midway through the first half, only for Sam Wainwright to reply with a header from a crossed free-kick just after the half-hour mark.

Tom Swann restored the lead for Waterhouses five minutes after the restart and it looked as though they had the points in the bag, but with a few minutes remaining,

Mark Timothy (87) headed home from a long throw and a minute later Edwin Ellis struck a fine shot into the top left corner to snatch all three points.

Prince of Wales displace Golden Lion to go top and three points clear.

Bulls Head recorded their second win of the season, scoring four without reply against struggling Breaks Athletic to lift them up a place to eighth.

The goals came in the form of singles from Jack Curwen (5) and Stu Orton (20) in the first half with Ryan Cotterill (60) and James Wilson (85) netting after the interval.

Two of the quarter-final ties were played in the Macclesfield and District Cup. With their home ground closed, Golden

Lion travelled to Back

Lane, Congleton, to play Westlands who sit in second place in the second tier of the East Cheshire League.

Lion dominated the first half as Tom Bowey opened in the 10th minute, with

Chris Burgess heading the second in the 35th minute and David Short hit a rocket shot five minutes later to give them a convincing 3-0 lead at the break.

The second half didn’t go so well as Burgess was dismissed in the 50th minute for a mistimed challenge with Will Smithson pulling one back for Westlands in the 80th, but it was a case of too little too late. The other game was an all Leek League tie between Breaks FC and Buxton Stags.

The first half finished even as Breaks took the lead twice through Dean Brookes (6) and James Owens

(29) with Pete Richardson (20) and Joe Burgess (38) replying for the Stags. And it was even up to half way through the second half, but then Stags stepped up a gear as Richardson (68, 80) and Burgess (74, 83) completed their hat-tricks.
