Weather put bid for last four Challenge Cup place on hold

LEEK CSOB will take on Stafford Town in the semifinals of the Staffs County League Challenge Cup - if they beat Tunstall Town in their quarter-final tie.

The Old Boys were due to play Tunstall on Saturday, but the match was postponed due to a snowbound Pointon Park pitch at Cheddleton.

Stafford booked their place after an extraordin­ary match against Redgate Clayton.

Stafford appeared to be cruising to victory with a 6-0 lead five minutes into the second half.

However, Redgate refused to give up without a fight and in 33 second-half minutes, scored six times, the equaliser coming in time added on to take the tie to penalties.

Stafford goalkeeper George Hill saved Redgate’s first penalty, taken by Aaron Protaszcza­k, while Queenton Manase, Lenny Baker, Jon Warburton and Will Heath all converted, leaving Stafford skipper Tom Duffy to score the winning spot-kick.

For the record, the scorers for Stafford were Tom Duffy (18, 48), Andy Dodd (25, 41), Sam Jessup (25), Joe Shanley (50), while Redgate replied with goals from Protaszcza­k (70), Ash Warren (74), Steve Bennett (80, 90), Gabby Chimunzing­a (83) and Martin Jackson (88).

Premier Division action saw Silverdale Athletic increase their lead to nine points with a 5-2 home win over Ashbourne.

Kingsley Gyamfi was the star of the show for Silverdale, scoring four of their goals, with Dom Thorley netting a single. Adam Lomas and Charles Mann replied for Ashbourne.

In the only other Premier Division game played, Alsager Town were 3-1 winners at Cheadle Town. Paul Hughes scored for the Moorlands outfit, but Alsager returned home with the three points, thanks to goals from Dan Biegus, Liam, Shaw and Dan Frost.

Into Division One where leaders Audley remain eight points clear following their 4-0 home win over Red Star Alma. Cal Middleton netted a hattrick for Audley, with Connor Jones also on the scoresheet.

Abbey Hulton United remain in second spot, with two games in hand, following their 2-1 home win over Redgate Clayton Res. Josh Oultram and Simon Rabbitt earned the win, with Mitch Underwood scoring for Redgate.

Two own goals and a strike from Marco Buckley earned Foley Meir Reserves a 3-1 win at Keele University (Jack Willis).

Leek CSOB Reserves didn’t have a game at the weekend, but picked up a point from a 1-1 draw with Norton Wanderers last Monday night. Jake Johnson scored for Leek and Ashley Moore for Norton.

The reserves were in action again on Monday night when they beat Milton United 5-3 to move up a place to third.

Ball Haye Green and Staffordsh­ire Moorlands were without a game after their scheduled fixtures against Milton United and Shenstone Pathfinder respective­ly, were postponed due to the weather.

Result of the day in Division Two was Cheadle Town Reserves’ 2-1 home win over Hawkins Sports who are sitting in the promotion spots.

Alfie Walford and Fraser Bradbury scored for Cheadle, with Dylan Hill on target for Hawkins who have fallen 10 points adrift of leaders AFC Alsager, who were 3-1 winners at Coven Athletic.

Josh Clayton (55, 65) and Jordan Rigby (85 pen) scored for Alsager after Reece Mann (25) had given Coven the lead.

Chesterton kept themselves in the promotion frame with a 3-2 win at Feathersto­ne, thanks to goals from Ash Humpage, Sam Golden and Oliver Brereton, but Eastwood Hanley Reserves (Rob Pace 2, Matt Fern) lost 4-3 at home to Lichfield City (Harry Lakin, Jordan Kidd, Ryan Baker, Will Cliff ).

Keele University went down 6-2 at Newport Town and Acorn Albion were 5-1 winners at home to Cannock.
