Walk will be a ‘thank you’ for Eleanor’s recovery...

Warning about suspicious van

- By Leslie Jackson leslie.jackson@reachplc.com

POLICE have had reports of a van being driven in a suspicious manner in the Tean location.

A police spokesman said: “This is a timely reminder to keep windows and doors locked when leaving your property.

“If you have a shed or garage, close the door once you have finished in there to stop anybody looking in when they drive past. If you have any concerns around any suspicious activity, please don’t hesitate to report it to Staffordshire Police.” A FAMILY whose daughter suffered an horrific accident are planning a walk through the Staffordshire countryside in an effort to raise money for children at a spinal hospital.

On August 8 2018, Eleanor Bloor of Hollington, suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury and T12 burst fracture.

The following day Eleanor, aged 11, was transferred to the Royal Stoke University Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

Some days later, only able to wriggle her toes, Eleanor was transferred to Alice Ward at RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry.

Six weeks of strict bed rest followed to allow the spinal cord its best chance to recover.

Determination and perseverance from Eleanor, her parents, little sister, an army of friends, family, the farming community – combined with the clinical excellence received by the teams of doctors and nurses at both the RSUH and RJAH –turned the tide of fate.

By mid-october, Eleanor was back at Abbotsholme School – part-time and on crutches.

Today, 12 months on, Eleanor has learned to walk again and has worked incredibly hard to regain almost full power in her legs.

For Eleanor, a keen horse rider, her greatest frustration – and key motivator – has been to get back in the saddle and ride her horse Clover.

This summer Eleanor has been building up to this goal on a mechanical horse and has just been given the amazing news that she can ride Clover again at last.

Now parents Jason and Janine Bloor are to stage the J A Bloor family walk on Sunday, September 15 starting at 10.30am from Abbotsholme School, near Rocester.

Everyone is invited to join in the 11km walk across the stunning Staffordshire countryside, over school fields, through Rocester, passing JCB lakes and HQ to Croxden Abbey and the village of Hollington, ending at Overton Farm, home to the Bloor family.

Picnics and dogs are welcome with transport for the return trip to school kindly provided by Abbotsholme School.

Janine said: “This walk is to raise awareness for Spinal Cord Injuries and to pay homage to the NHS medical care and excellence Eleanor received. It will also be an opportunity to have fun spending quality time with friends and family.

“A key aim of this walk is to raise funds for the children on Alice Ward. Eleanor and her sister have their sights set on swings for wheelchair users and virtual reality goggles to distract little minds when faced with daunting trips down to theatre or for X-rays.

“As a family, this walk is to celebrate walking and the fact that determination delivers.’

To take part, it is necessary to register by simply logging on to www.regevent. co.uk and joining the J A Bloor Family Walk.

Further details on the walk can also be found there or by emailing any questions to info@overtonfarm.co.uk
