How I got where I am today...
Wes Webster Owner, Wes Webster Photography
I FIRST discovered photography when studying for an HND in Graphic Design.
Taking pictures and developing my own film and images in the darkroom became a creative passion which kick-started my career in photography.
After completing my diploma, I decided to pursue a career in the newspaper industry as a photojournalist.
This career path spanned around 15 years leading to me becoming a photographer for The Sentinel.
During my time there I won the Midlands Photographer of the Year award.
In 2011 I decided that I had all the necessary skills and knowledge to start my own photography business, Wes Webster Photography.
How is your business doing?
Business has grown year-on-year and I’m really busy. It’s an exciting time to be a photographer with new advances in technology opening more creative options.
What are you looking to gain from membership of the Chamber?
I’ve joined the Chamber to be part of a business community, to learn from other business owners and to increase my profile.
What advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?
Follow your instinct, never give up. Bounce back even stronger, enjoy life to its full and look after those close to you.
Favourites
Food: My wife’s cooking, especially her Japanese dishes.
Drink: A nice whiskey or a cool bottle of Corona with lime.
Book: I love to learn, so anything non-fiction.
Film: I love movies and appreciating the cinematography, the lighting etc. My favourite film would probably have to be The Goonies, as I grew up with it and it reminds me of being young – everyone do the Truffle Shuffle!
Music: I enjoy indie, funk, breakbeat, D&B and I’m currently listening to a lot of Twenty One Pilots.
Team: I’m not a footy or rugby fan but I love whitewater kayaking and my favourite paddler from my homeland South Africa is Steve Fisher.
