Washington claims eight wickets in Knypersley triumph

-

DARREN Washington used his years of experience to lead Knypersley to victory in their NSSCL Division Five game at Blythe.

Matt Barlow made 38 for Blythe, but it was Washington who stole the show with a performance which rolled back the years.

The wily seamer claimed 8-26 to skittle Blythe for a mere 73.

And that was a target which proved to be well within range as Rob Whilding made 31 not out and James Abbotts contributed 23 to seal an eight-wicket triumph.

Porthill Park thirds held their nerve to win at home against Onneley.

Jake Short (18) and Adam Edwards (15no) were the principal contributors to Onneley’s 85 all out.

However, Matt Farr and John Polepaka scooped 5-30 and 4-18 respectively to leave Porthill Park in control of the contest.

But Onneley fought back - led by Short’s 4-41 - but Alex Lockett’s 17 was key to Porthill Park completing a two-wicket win.

Meakins duo Steve Bishop and Jawaad Riaz both took four wickets in their side’s win at Alsager.

Bishop picked up 4-17 and Riaz claimed 4-38 to leave Alsager all out for 94. George Chaytors top-scored with 24.

There were double strikes from Jake Newbold shankland and Oliver Mitchell in reply, but Raqeeb Murad’s 33 not out and 29 from Jared Healey sealed a five-wicket victory for the visitors.

Leek ran out four-wicket winners at home against Whitmore.

Set 110 to win, Rory Corden’s unbeaten 35 and Ben Turner’s 24 completed the mission, despite double strikes from Sam Bridgewater and Louis Colby.

Colby had earlier made 31 and Sandip Sen contributed 26 in Whitmore’s 109-6. Corden took two of the wickets to fall. Alen Alex hit the ton trail for Sandon as they defeated Little Stoke.

Alex compiled 103 not out, featuring 15 fours and one six, in Sandon’s 178-9.

Greg Faulkner took 4-54 and then made 42 with the bat.

And although Atif Hussain (22) and James Ecclestone (21) also played well, Little Stoke were dismissed for 104.

Manu Das led the bowling effort with 3-30.
