Walker shines on the green despite loss at Knypersley

-

LEEK Bowling Club’s A Team in the Congleton League Division B were away at Knypersley A where they lost in a relatively low scoring game by 121 to 135. Kevin Walker won well 21-7 with Arthur Naylor also on good form with 21-8. Alan Franklin was the only other winner with 21-15. The B Team also away were at the Coronation Club going down 126 to 157, there were only two winners in Pat Alcock 21-13 and Brian Ball 21-18. The C Team, at home to Biddulph B, lost 106-145 despite having three winners from the eight games, Harry Wright best with 21-10. The A and B teams have now finished their fixtures though the C Team have three to go. The veterans league is now nearing the end of the league fixtures, but has the knockout cup half way through September. In the vets league, Leek A travelled to Alsager to play Institute A, and even though it rained heavily prior to the match the home team coped better and Leek were disappointed to record 112 to 160 with only one winning card from Alan Franklin 21-13. The Vets B team were at home to Leek Park Vets and had a big win 156-105, Pat Alcock, Julie Watson and Don Wood winning to single figures. It now looks likely that The Leek Vets B team will remain in Division A when at one point in the season it looked unlikely. The Vets C team had a struggle away at Haslington, Roy Trafford was the only winner but 122-162 says it all. The Uttoxeter League has a way to go before it finishes following the reconfiguration of the divisions into larger groups. Both Leek Teams were in action, Team 1 were at home to Sudbury and the visitors bowled the fast running Leek green very well. The scores were 222 to 204 which was a bit disappointing for the home team. Team 2 were at Checkley and they found it very difficult, winning two of the four doubles and two of the eight singles only. Alan Franklin 21-5 and Joe Bailey 21-15 were the singles winners. In the Staffs Ladies League the Leek Ladies were away at Wolstanton Marsh winning very impressively 141-98 dropping only six chalks. The best card coming from Linda Walker 21-5 with 21-7 from Pat Alcock.
