Cup heartache for the Old Boys and Cheadle

LEEK CSOB and Cheadle Town were knocked out of the Staffs County Senior League Cup at the weekend, but there was better news for Ball Haye Green, who progressed in the Leek Cup.

The Old Boys were beaten 2-0 by Alsager Town thanks to goals from Nick Woods and Liam Shaw.

Cheadle Town were beaten 6-2 by Abbey Hulton United.

Brad Wilson and Hayden Wright scored two apiece for Abbey, with Simon Rabbit and Tom Swann also on the scoresheet.

Stephen Keeling netted both goals for Cheadle Town.

Wolstanton United eased to a 4-1 home win over Walsall Phoenix. Dave Ashley was on target twice, with Shane Williamson and Jamie Kempson scoring one apiece. Henry Roper netted the sole reply for Walsall.

Alex Djukic was in fine form for last season’s Premier Division champions Silverdale Athletic with a hat-trick in a 3-1 win at Redgate Clayton.

Djukic scored in the 15th and 42nd minutes before Ben Mattews brought Redgate back into thegame with a goal onu 78 minutes.

However, Djukic netted his third six minutes from time to secure the tie for Silverdale.

Three ties were decided by penalty shoot-outs. Foley Meir and Hanley Town drew 2-2 and it was Hanley who progressed to the next round with a 4-3 victory from the penalty spot. Mark Grice scored both goals for Foley Meir, with Jordan Hall and Oliver Coleman on target for Hanley.

Eastwood Hanley lost their tie 4-3 on penalties after the match against Ashbourne ended in a 1-1 draw.

Elisio Fransisco had put Hanley ahead after seven minutes, but the Derbyshire equalised through Startin on 48 minutes

Audley (Mitchell Blaise) and Tunstall Town (Jimmy Mccarthy) drew 1-1 and it was Audley who progressed 5-4 from the penalty spot.

It was also Leek Cup day and City of Stoke beat Ball Haye Green Reserves 4-1. Joe Sargeamt (2), Jordan Johnson and Jordan Dunn eased City of Stoke into the next round, with Liam Ngwashi netted the goal for Ball Haye Green Reserves.

However, there was better news for Green’s first team who were 3-2 winners at Hilton Harriers with goals from Dom Grindey, Sam Golden (pen) and Tom Edwards, with Adam Logan and Andrew Castlehow replying for Harriers.

AFC Alsager cruised into the next round with an 8-1 home win over Cheadle Town Reserves. Sam Revell helped himself to a hat-trickl, while Jordan Rugby (2), Alex James (2) and James Morris piled the misery on Town, who replied through Frankie Wynn.

Chesterton enjoyed a 4-1 home victory over Staffordsh­ire Victoria. Ash Humpage, Jack Simon, Tom Farr and Louie Archer scored for Chesterton, with Ryan Alcock replying for the Vics.

Audley Reserves (Dylan Hill, Ryan Taylor) were 2-1 winners at Madeley White Star (Kieran Brown), while Leon Morgan scored five times for Lichfield City in their 7-1 win at walsall Phoenix Reserves.

League action saw Leek CSOB Reserves involved in an 11-goal thriller at Bloxwich United in Division One, but it was the home side who came out on top 6-5.

Jake Gordon scored a hattrick and there were two goals for Leek’s Zak Barker, but Bloxwich earned the points with goals from Marvelous Omoregie (3), Andre Joes (2) and Luke Baugh.

Market Drayton (Rovert Boyd) were 2-0 winners over Shenstone Pathfinder, while Milton United (Leighton Jones) and Redgate Clayton Reserves (Mitch Mason) drew 1-1.
