Khan plays lead role as Cheadle defeat Porthill in Mcardle final

-

CHEADLE took home the Barney Mcardle Trophy after beating Porthill Park in Sunday’s final at Endon.

The two Premier Division sides had defeated Bagnall Norton and hosts Endon respectively to reach the showpiece.

And it was Cheadle who walked off with the silverware after a rapid seven-wicket victory.

Set 133 to win, the Moorlanders needed just 12 overs to knock off the runs as Ali Khan blitzed a rapid 72 to set them on their way.

Khan had earlier taken

3-37 to help to restrict Porthill Park to 132 all out. James Sellers (3-19) and Jack Hassall (3-23) also shone with the ball.

Tom Mason (45) made the biggest impact with the bat for Porthill Park, but it wasn’t enough.

Cheadle had cruised past Bagnall Norton in their semifinal.

Bagnall Norton were 0-3 and 29-7 before Warren Aubrey made 24 at number 11 to see them to 84 all out.

Matthew Goodwin and Sellers reaped 3-10 and

3-11 respectively.

Cheadle’s Johnathan Clowes then made light work of that meagre target as he compiled 41 not out to seal an eight-wicket win in nine overs.

Endon’s George Sellers hit a century in his side’s semifinal against Porthill Park, but the NSSCL Division Two champions lost out.

Sellers struck 10 fours and five sixes in his 69-ball 109 not out to dominate Endon’s 150-6. John Hancock took 3-25.

Endon skipper Marlon Martin claimed a couple of wickets in the run chase, but Porthill Park won with an over to spare thanks to Ryan Hassett’s unbeaten 62 and 48 from Nick Hubble.
