Week of mixed fortunes for Leek bowling teams
LEEK Bowling Club Veterans B Team were playing in the Congleton Veterans League Division A and were away at Coronation and on a tricky uneven surface never came to grips with it.
The final result of the final game of their season was a defeat by 158 to 112.
The sole winner was Pat Alcock with 21-11 after a good win 21-4 last week.
In the Ladies League, Leek were at home to Betley and won 132 to 104 and Pat Alcock 21-2 was the best winner of four from seven closely followed by Sandra Clark with 21-6.
The Vets C Team were at home in their final fixture versus Goostrey and won well 149 to 122 Joe Bailey and Bel Naylor both returned 21-9 for the best cards among five winners.
The Uttoxeter League goes on for one more week after this week’s matches and in Division One, Leek 1 were at Hatton B and would be pleased with a 234 to 196 victory putting them in third position in the league.
Leek 2 were at home to Mayfield A and returned 206 to 228. Mayfield A are currently leading the league but are likely to be overtaken by Kingsley who have a game left at home coincidentally to Leek 1 who need to score 229 to finished second and push Mayfield down to third place.
Kingsley need to score 118 to be champions, it seems well within their capabilities as their lowest score of the season was 186 at Beggars Lane versus Leek 1 on August 17.

■ LEEK Park Bowling Club’s Thursday team travelled to Etruria Park on a day when the rain had stopped and the sun appeared, which eventually dried out a well manicured surface.
The wind was blustery and cold. Etruria Park is a mid table team, safe from relegation fears but unlikely to make promotion.
As expected, Etruria provided stiff opposition, having won three of their eight home matches with 200+ points.
The Leek team worked hard and were resilient in their play. An early win from Margaret Perkin, well supported by Pauline Heath on 17 points got the team off to a good start.
Further victories by Tony Birks, Arthur Hadfield, Kevin Walker and Alan Barr, with good contributions from Bob Green, Lynn Hadfield, Harvey Lomas and Ian Cantril saw Leek gaining a very valuable 165 points to the 183 scored by Etruria.
With one league game to play, Leek Park should maintain their place in this league after promotion last year.
