FACING THE WALL OF DEATH

- By Les Jackson leslie.jackson@reachplc.com

A NEW world record was set at a festival held in Blackshaw Moor on Saturday.

The event also saw local rider Stu Day become the first person to take a modern trials bike with no seat around Ken Fox’s Wall of Death.

Unfortunately, Guinness has been unable to accept Stu’s challenge as they say they cannot differentiate between motorbikes.

The festival, entitled ‘Who Dares Fest,’ was held at Blackshaw Farm, Blackshaw Moor.

Alex Fox from Cambridgeshire attempted to break the Guinness world record for the fastest push bike around the Wall of Death. The current record stood at 27mph.

The large crowd were thrilled to see Alex reach a speed of 28.47mph around the Wall of Death to become the world record holder.

Because no insurance company will insure them, the riders asked for donations after the show. The crowd threw coins and notes down into the arena

One of the organisers, Jo Lowe, said: “It was a brilliant day. We had a great crowd and we have received fabulous feedback since the event. People said that it was amazing to watch.

“Alex broke the world record for the fastest around the Wall of Death on a push bike, while Stu Day became the first person to take a trial bike around the wall.

“He did four attempts and each time he got higher up the wall.

“Now people are asking if we will do another event next year.”

Stu, 46 of Blackshaw Moor, said: “This was a celebration of two wheels. Some people have negative views of bikers but this shows how friendly everyone is, it is a family event.”

A range of entertainment including chainsaw carving, live music, a DJ, Extreme Bike Show, trials bike competitions and barbecue, had been arranged by the organisers throughout the festival.
