MP ‘committed’ to tackling issue of loneliness in the Moorlands

-

MOORLANDS MP Karen Bradley has returned to the Werrington Community Library and Wellbeing

Centre to meet members of the Werrington Community Volunteers Group and hear about their therapy log cabin project.

Mrs Bradley has been involved with the community volunteers group for some years and was pleased to invite them to speak at her Loneliness and Isolation Conference, ‘Beyond the Front Door,’ earlier this year.

During her visit Mrs Bradley looked at the plans for the log cabins and was interested to hear about the materials and ideas that the group have for them.

Wendy Sandbrook, the Wellbeing co-ordinator, told the Moorlands MP how she is working on developing arrangements to bring in specialist providers to deliver care and wellbeing packages covering mental health, carers and the disabled with the dual aim of also tackling loneliness.

Mrs Bradley said: “It was lovely to visit the Werrington Community Volunteers Group again to hear more about their therapy log cabin project.

“I am committed to try and help tackle loneliness and isolation in Staffordshire Moorlands and this project is a fantastic wellbeing initiative that will really benefit the local community.”

Group chairman, David Shaw, said that he was delighted to welcome Mrs Bradley again to Werrington’s special enterprise which will be yet another UK first for the volunteers.

He said: “Karen has been involved with our wellbeing initiative since day one and opened the facility three years ago.

“We are grateful for her ongoing help developing our unique programme, many times behind the scenes, but she is always on hand for support and advice.

“In outlining the current stage of the plans Karen offered to take part in the next phase which will be the final stage.”
