‘Boris is still in office. But is he in power?’
I READ with fascination Joe Porter’s paean of praise for Boris Johnson, pictured above, and his hardline Brexit policy (Post & Times
September 4).
‘Great strides since taking office,’ ‘proud to back Boris for the leadership’ and ‘Boris’s Britain will be an international, free-trading, outward-looking, self-confident nation that stands tall in the world’ are among its most striking assessments.
Unfortunately this fulsome description coincided with the beginning of a week of embarrassing failure for the new Prime Minister.
He is still in office. But is he in power?
Only the Express is putting a good face on his performance.
He has shrunk the Conservative Party and increased support for the Lib Dems, both in Parliament and the polls.
He has united all the other parties, except Brexit, against ‘no deal.’
Legal and constitutional challenges are multiplying like rabbits.
He is, in fact, a disaster.
But he was voted in as leader of his party by a large majority.
The best thing the Conservatives could do would be to persuade him to resign quietly to spend more time with his families or enter a Trappist monastery.
They could then hope that the Labour Party suffered a commotion dwarfing this farce.
Contemplating this unbelievable situation, I can only suggest that we might be better taking a busload of passengers going from Staffordshire and putting them in charge.
They could hardly do worse. Margaret Brown Name and address supplied
