‘Care teams deserve recognition as well’

-

DURING the present situation I would like to express my thanks to all the staff and carers who work with

adults with learning disabilities who live in facilities which necessitate 24 hour care.

My daughter lives in a house in Lightwood which she shares with three other young adults where there is 24 hour care.

These tenants have been unable to leave the house for the past few weeks.

The situation, I know, is difficult for anyone, let alone people such as my daughter who do not understand the importance of these rules being adhered to.

The staff at the house work long hours (and at times are confronted with challenging behaviour) and they seem to be overlooked.

Once they have finished their shift, the majority have young families and other responsibilities facing them when they get home.

The present situation highlights the importance of carers, and when the current pandemic is over it would be pleasing to see that these people are recognised alongside the other care industry and nursing professions.
