A VERY busy day indeed with 738 Cattle and 2,226 sheep on offer

Don’t forget that the market is on next Monday, May 25.

Trade good in all sections and plenty of outstandin­g prices achieved

The store cattle section was very busy, well supported with 493 forward and another tremendous demand. Top figures were Steers to £1,190, heifers to £1,145 and feeding bulls to £960

What these prices do not illustrate is the level of trade for younger cattle which a detailed inspection of the sample prices listed later in this report will show.

There were 110 finished cattle with trade well up on the week. Top figures

244p and £1,468 with the average for the 34 heifers looking good at 193.3p

A decent turnout of 96 OTM and feeding cows selling very well indeed. Top figures 162p and £1,192. The overall average an excellent 126.8p.

Calf numbers creeping up to 39 with bulls to £405 and heifers to £232.

The largest entry of sheep that we have seen for many weeks with a total of 2,226 on offer.

Spring lamb numbers continue to build with 416 this week.

Top figures 329p and £134.31 per head. The SQQ average looked good at 282.3p.

Old season lambs were out in force selling to 240p and £128.44. The SQQ average for a mixed sample emerged at 216.1p.

A big turnout of 824 cull sheep attracted plenty of attention and ewes reached £135 and the average £77.99.
