Abusive lorry drivers ‘one step too far’
SPEEDING and abusive lorry drivers are causing major concerns in a rural village.
At the last meeting of Ipstones Parish Council the authority received letters from several parishioners over the speed of lorries and abuse received from a driver of a large transport company when travelling through Ipstones.
Speaking at the remote meeting of the parish council, chairman Linda Malyon said: “We have received letters from people raising their concerns over the large amount of lorries speeding through the village and also abusing people.
“There were cars parked and an argument took place, the driver then abused a member of the public. I have spoken to the police. It is disgraceful to abuse people. Most drivers are courteous, but it is one step too far to abuse people.”
Councillor Howard Mycock said that he had witnessed lorries speeding through the village.
Councillors agreed to write raising their concerns to the head of Staffordshire Moorlands Police, Mark Thorley; the traffic commissioner and to local county councillors. It was also agreed to write to the company involved.
