SINGER-SONGWRITER Julia Mosley is aiming to grow her fanbase after releasing her first professional album with her band.

The 29-year-old alternative rock singer released a homemade EP under her own name in 2010.

But she put together a six-piece band in 2017 and is now eagerly anticipating the launch of her debut album, Illuminate The Night.

The 10-track record is described as ‘dark, dramatic and passionate’ with ‘medieval vibes.’

Moorlands-born Julia said: “Some of the songs are ones I have written years ago. It’s the accumulation of my best work and songs that fit together as a whole.

“In terms of recording we started putting the album together last summer. It’s been great and really fun and creative.

“It was a relaxed environment. We take opportunities out of things going wrong, it was organic and flowing. We were vibing off each other.

“There’s no live gigs at the moment due to coronavirus. We were lucky because we did most of the album before the pandemic. I did try to do home recordings but it didn’t quite hit the standards.

“Luckily we planned what we were going to do and we hit the studio as soon as it was safe.”

Julia grew up in the countryside near Alton Towers.

The former Leek High School pupil joined her first band at 14-years-old and in 2007 won a competition called Staffordshire Pop Stars at Stafford Gatehouse.

She has performed across venues in Staffordshire including the

Underground, Sugarmill and Lymelight festival.

Julia said: “The initial thing that inspired me was through hearing Evanescence when I heard their song Bring Me To Life.

“I remember singing it at the school music show and that was when I realised I was so interested in singing.” Julia is also a singing teacher at Sandbach Music, Amadeus Music Academy in Longton and Rhythm Foundry Music School in Newcastle.

She said: “I used to teach our backing vocalist, Charlotte, when she was 15. When I first met her she was a young girl and I was the teacher but now we are both in our twenties and in a band together.

“I went to Germany to sing in Münster in January. That was organised by a promoter, he is a patron of my music.

“He found my music online and got me this gig at a new names show where they promote new acts. He paid for my flight and the money I would have lost from teaching that day. It’s been a long time coming. Under my name and band, I haven’t had an album professionally recorded so I am excited.

“I did a homemade EP under my solo one in 2010. That was more like a demo. This is the first professional debut of the Julia Mosley band.

“I want to keep making music and be able to continue to write more songs and record them and have a growing fan base.”

The album will be available on digital platforms including itunes from November 27.
