40-minute diversion
MOTORISTS face a
40-minute diversion as a Staffordshire Moorlands road is closed tonight to allow maintenance work to take place, writes TOM BURNETT.
The A520 Cheadle Road, Cheddleton, will be shut overnight for resurfacing around the roundabout with Basford Bridge Lane.
The closure will be in place between 9pm and 5am tonight, September 23, – according to Staffordshire County Council’s notice.
Smaller vehicles may be able to find shorter routes using rural roads. However, lorries and other larger vehicles will have to take a diversion through Stoke-on-trent.
An electronic sign at the site says the closure will be for one night only and ‘weather permitting.’
In their road closure notice the council said: “Staffordshire County Council being the highway authority responsible for the repair and maintenance of Cheadle Road in Cheddleton are satisfied that it is necessary to close that length of Cheadle Road at the roundabout linking A520 Cheadle Road to Basford Bridge Lane and approaches for a period of three days but no more than five days from September 23 2020 because of the likelihood of danger to the public during resurfacing being undertaken by Staffordshire County Council.
“Access will be available for pedestrians and for vehicles being used in connection with the works (and for emergency services vehicles or for vehicles requiring access to premises on the length of road which is closed).”
