Sewing group addressing the elephant in the loom!
A MOORLANDS sewing academy is gearing up the annual Sew Saturday, but with a slight difference this year.
The Lorna Knight Sewing Academy, in Bradnop, is taking part in the nationwide sewing week between Monday, September 28 and Saturday, October 3.
The event is organised by Sew Magazine and is designed to encourage people to shop in their local haberdashery stores and this year it is particularly relevant as small, independent sewing shops start to recover after months of lost business due to coronavirus lockdown.
Lorna, owner of the Bradnop studio, said: “On previous Sew Saturdays dozens of visitors of all ages have come along to sew. We have had friends and strangers sitting together, chatting and sewing; making things like cats, dogs, unicorns and llamas, just for fun. As well as being a sociable event it is a way to rekindle forgotten skills or introduce people to a possible new hobby.
“This year things will need to be a little different but we do not want anyone to miss out on this annual event.
“This year, from September 28 onwards, people can come and collect their free Elephant Pack from the studio then on Sew Saturday I will release a video showing how our little project is made up. This means everyone can still take part in Sew Saturday but in the comfort of their own homes. We will miss having a full studio on the day but we hope everyone will send in photos of their finished elephants so we will still enjoy the results”
