Tennis courts will also be refurbished in design plans
PLANS for a new improved play area at a town’s major park are set to be unveiled this month.
Now people are to be invited to have their say on what they think of the designs set out for Brough Park in Leek.
Earlier this year Staffordshire Moorlands District Council agreed to invest in new play and sports facilities, works to the lake and the creation of a new access from the park to John Hall Gardens.
Four design proposals have now been submitted to the council for the new play area and these will be on show between 2pm and 7pm on Tuesday, September 29 in the spinning room at Brough Park Leisure Centre.
Deputy leader of the council, Councillor Mark Deaville, who also has the responsibility for leisure and sports, said: “The council is committed to providing high quality parks and green spaces across the district and we know that this park in the heart of Leek is a much-loved and valued amenity for so many people. That’s why we’re investing in the facilities in the park and why we want to involve local people in deciding what those facilities should be.
“We’re delighted to be able to share these designs with everyone and we’re looking forward to hearing what people think of them. The comments we receive will form part of the overall evaluation of the proposals and help decide which of the designs we choose.”
The plans include relocating the new play area to the area currently occupied by two of the tennis courts, near to the skate park. The multi use games area will also move to a new position on the third tennis court next to the larger play area.
Two tennis courts will continue to be provided and will be located side by side near to the bowling greens.
These remaining courts be refurbished as part of improvements to the park.
In line with guidance to prevent the spread of Covid-19, only one household at a time will be able to enter the spinning room where the proposals will be on display and the wearing of face masks is required.
Additionally, those attending should use the entrance directly from the car park at the front of the building and should not enter the leisure centre via the main entrance.
Councillor Deaville added: “We’re very much looking forward to sharing these plans with people but I would urge people who want to come and see them to make sure they follow the measures we have put in place to ensure this is a Covid-secure event.” will the
