- CALLUM DAINTY

LEEK Town Ladies continued with their West Midlands Regional Premier League campaign with a 6-2 home victory over Coundon Court.

From the start Leek looked threatening and they were piling pressure on to the opposition defence with some fine attacking play. Rehanne Mellor got the opening goal for Leek from a sublime Cassie Hyde through-ball.

Mellor’s first shot was saved by the keeper but she followed up well to tap into an empty net.

Coundon then got back into the game after a defensive mix up saw their striker pick up the ball from 30 yards out, striking the ball on to the bar and into the back of the net.

For the remainder of the first half the game was fairly balanced, however Leek managed to get their second as Captain Naomi Sale-hancock rose the highest to head home a Katie Maya corner.

In the second half Leek showed their quality and they increased their lead via Katie Gibbons, Katie Maya turned provider as she saw the run of Gibbons who finished calmly in a one-vone with the keeper.

It soon became 4-1 Leek as Michaela Lockett tapped home into an empty net, after the opposition keeper saved smartly from Katie Gibbons.

Leek then won a free-kick just outside the penalty area, after Lucy Goodfellow was brought down after a strong powerful run.

Goodfellow took the resulting free-kick, which was powerfully struck into the top right corner of the goal.

Twelve minutes from time Leek won another free kick right on the edge of the box after a handball, Cassie Hyde stepped up and curled the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal making it 6-1.

Coundon Court in the last kick of the game got a consolation goal from their striker firing home.

But that couldn’t take the shine off a fine day for Leek as they maintained their fine start.
