New format on the agenda for NSSCL ahead of 2021 season

-

THE North Staffs and South Cheshire League have proposed big changes to the competition’s structure for the 2021 season.

The league’s cricket committee have put forward a new set of playing regulations after digesting feedback from member clubs over the format of Saturday league cricket.

This year’s action was heavily hit by the coronavirus pandemic, which saw the usual 55-over format replaced by a 40-over per side competition played on a straight win/lose basis.

Proposals have now been put in place for next summer’s action involving a huge revamp of how matches are played.

The NSSCL have put forward that the first five weeks and final six weeks of games in the Premier down to Division Three would be win/lose cricket.

The middle 11 weeks would see games played under the traditional format of win, lose, draw. All 22 matches in Divisions Four to Eight would be straight win or lose.

There would be the reintroduction of a toss in all divisions, while powerplays would operate in every game. However, the leg-side wide rule would only be applicable in the top four divisions.

It is also proposed that win/lose matches in the Premier and Division One would be played in coloured clothing. All other matches will be played in whites.

Bowling restrictions will also remain in place - and tightened in some cases - while there are also an array of bonus points on offer for losing sides or in a drawn encounter.
