Moddershal­l & Oulton recover from bad start to earn top conclusion

MODDERSHAL­L & Oulton fifths recovered from a nightmare start to defeat Caverswall seconds in NSSCL Division Five - and in the process be crowned champions.

The Modd men were reduced to 5-5 after being asked to bat - but rallied superbly thanks to Ravi Lindamulag­e and Uchitha Jayawickra­ma.

Lindamulag­e made 61, hitting eight fours, and Jayawickra­ma added 30, as Moddershal­l & Oulton eventually made their way to 121 all out.

John Baker, Robert Ratcliffe, Richard Brooks and Sam Barker all took two wickets for Caverswall.

But the tables had been turned and 4-25 from Nishantha Jayakody and Sadeeptha Jayathilak­a’s

3-2, left Caverswall 90 all out in their run chase.

That was a dramatic finish after the visitors had been well placed on 74-2 - thanks to Jack Amison’s 33 - before the Modd men fought back once more to secure title success.

Sandon left it until the final day of the season to bank their first win with victory over Leek seconds.

Sandon had lost all 10 matches heading in to Saturday, but produced a fine performanc­e to break their duck.

They posted 218-7 as Hareesh Sathyanath­an

Nair hit 50 and there were excellent support-act contributi­ons from David Abel (35), Alen Alex (33) and Greg Swanwick (30).

Brad Grindey and Luke Trafford both struck twice for Leek.

But the Moorlander­s, who finished in third place, were well off the pace in their reply, despite Tom Grindey making 61.

Alex took a hat-trick in his 5-31 and there was 3-25 from Swanwick as Leek were bowled out for 125.

Whitmore finished bottom of the table, but ended the campaign with a six-wicket home win against Little Stoke.

Louis Colby and Owen Lawton picked up 5-9 and 3-28 respective­ly to skittle Little Stoke for 72. Zak Mosam made 29 not out.

Talbot claimed doubles after the interval, but Shishir Tiwari’s 21 was key to Whitmore overhaulin­g their target.

Alsager had to be content with the runners-up spot after beating Blythe on home turf.

Visitors Blythe had Mahfuj Miah (43) and Dan Green

(30) in fine form to see them to 151-6, even though Lewis Fearnhead scooped 3-36. Alsager didn’t have things all their own way in the run chase as Miah captured 4-30.

But James Bloor’s 57 not out, featuring seven fours and one six, plus 35 from Oliver Jepson, saw them to a three-wicket triumph.

Ashcombe Park thrashed Stafford seconds by eight wickets.

Three wickets apiece from Grant Roberts (3-3) and

Jake Johnson (3-15) left Stafford 51 all out.

Terry Jones (16) and Dave Cartlidge (14) offered some resistance

Chris Bradsteet then compiled an unbeaten 29 to see Ashcombe Park to an easy success.

Meakins thirds won on their visit to Knypersley seconds.

Zagham Farhan (5-14) and Jawaad Riaz (3-13) joined forces to limit Knype to 1179 from their allocation

Chris Barry made 37 up front for the hosts, while Callum Landon chipped in with 23 not out.

Jake Coxon led the Meakins reply with an unbeaten 74 and coupled with Helen Hughes’ 22, that enabled Meakins to register a five-wicket win. Marcus Kiely took two wickets.

AUDLEM marked their first season in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League with the Division Eight championsh­ip.

Audlem needed just one point at Cheadle thirds at the weekend - and eased to another victory.

Dan Butler (55) and Andy Rothwell (47) helped Audlem to 175-8, in which Oliver Slinn took 4-31.

Callum Mcilveen then captured 3-27 to leave Cheadle 111 all out, despite 33 from David Wilson.

Stafford fourths won at their Meakins counterpar­ts.

Steve Sutton’s 77 led Stafford to 185-8 from their allocation.

Yumeth Athauda (41) replied impressive­ly, but 3-27 from Fausil Khan ensured that the home side were restricted to 127-7 in their chase.

Crewe easily beat Porthill Park fifths by nine wickets.

Zach Chambers claimed 3-4 to ensure that Porthill Park were bowled out for 121. That target was a walk in the park for the Cheshire visitors after the interval.

Max Gay led the charge with 45 not out.
