Holding in top form to start Elworth party

ELWORTH produced a performanc­e befitting champions as they eased to the NSSCL Division Four title with an emphatic victory over Onneley.

Matt Holding was the star of the show in the early part of the afternoon for the Cheshire hosts as he captured 5-25 to leave Onneley all out for 125.

(20) offered some resistance for Onneley. However, it was not enough as Elworth then turned on the style to confirm their place at the summit.

They needed just 16.2 overs to complete a nine-wicket victory, fronted by Kieran Allsop’s 51. Matthew Yardley added an unbeaten 31 and Sam Baldwin was 27 not out.

Silverdale seconds were also in clinical form as they won by 10 wickets at Hem Heath thirds. Three wickets apiece from

Wayne Peach (3-6) and Chris White (3-13) ensured Hem Heath were bundled out for 118.

Alex Emery (39) and Seb Lewis (33) shone with the bat.

In reply, Silverdale openers Kyle Kirkham and Gareth Metcalfe were not parted as they reached the target in 22.3 overs

Kirkham hit 10 fours in his 68 not out, with Metcalfe (42no) playing the anchor role.

Bignall End won by nine runs at home against Moddershal­l & Oulton thirds. Andrew Howle (30) and Bhagesh Mishra (29no) led Bignall End to 162-8, despite Josh Crump and Elliot Massey both taking two wickets.

Gareth Mcaloon struck five fours in his 70 not out after the interval, while Joe Hawkins chipped in with 37.

But it wasn’t to be for the visitors as they drew stumps on 153-7 after Kieran Peake, Gareth Moulton and Dharmaraj Ramanathan all took two wickets. Porthill Park thirds edged out Woore by one wicket.

Set 157 for victory, Matthew Cope’s 36 was key to Porthill Park limping over the line.

Craig Ruscoe took 3-25 for Woore, backed up by double strikes from George Walker, Tas Hussain and Azaan Maroof. Matthew Kenvyn and Ruscoe had earlier contribute­d 35 and 31 respective­ly to Woore’s 156-9. Daniel Lyth (3-43) was at the forefront of Porthill Park’s bowling effort.

Newcastle & Hartshill seconds won by two wickets at home against Barlaston.

Wayne Morray’s unbeaten 56 underpinne­d Barlaston’s progress to 149-9, in which Deacon Purcell helped himself to 3-16. Castle had the odd wobble in reply - instigated by Elliot Wilson’s 3-37 - but Rob Hagan (37) and Roger Howe (32) helped them to victory

Bagnall Norton comfortabl­y won at Stone SP thirds. Half-centuries from Luke Morris (67) and Paul Tomkinson (58no) enabled Bagnall Norton to stick 216-5 on the board. Sam Bamford and Kai Owen both snared two victims. Gareth Davies (30) and Bamford (26no) were in decent nick after tea, but Stone SP could only reach 130-6 from their 40 overs.
