WHAT an excellent day, with 446 cattle forward and 1682 sheep in total with excellent prices achieved.

A packed dairy shed, with a large herd dispersal, and large commercial entry, seeing two second calvers to £2340 and £2060, and a third calver to £2240.

A full sheep shed, and our continued thanks to our customers for their patience. Leading prices of 227p/kg twice, and £124.80/head with a very mixed entry forward. Cull ewes sold up to £142 for well meated Texels.

Calves continue to sell very well with plenty of buyers, with Blue bull calves up to £402 and heifers to £285.

Twice as many barren cattle this Tuesday and trade just as good, especially for those more meated types, selling to 134p/kg or £1130.50 and clean to 170p/kg.

Pigs sold on an excellent trade, selling to 146p/kg and averages up by 10-15p across the board.

A larger entry but a lot of leaner types forward taking affect on the average, but a solid trade throughout for all the qualities

on offer. Top price of 134p/kg for a 810kg Holstein from WG & J Clark, Bradnop, with Angus’ to 134p/kg for a 825kg cow from HA & TR Mycock, Grindon, and Shorthorns to 133p/kg for a 675kg cow from P J Simpson, Winkhill.

Overall average of 101.46p/kg or

£601.50, being less that usual do you a large proportion of small & lean dairy types forward.

Top headage price of £1130.50 for the 850kg Hereford from HA & TR Mycock, Grindon, with Holsteins to £1128.50 and £1085.40 and Angus’ to £1105.50.

Overage steers sold to 174p/kg for a 640kg Hereford and 139p/kg for a 640kg Friesian with overage bulls to 143p/kg for a 465kg British Blue from P J Simpson, Winkhill

A small entry sold up to 170p/kg twice for a730kg British Blue steer and a 700kg Limousin steer, with young bulls to 159p/kg for a 645kg British Blue from Alcock Bros, Ford who sold another 575kg Blue at 155p/ kg.

**TOP OF £2340 **

Not a single standing or pen left in the dairy shed on Tuesday which saw 58 commercial milkers sold along with 3 In-calf heifers, 17 Youngstock, a stock bull and a herd dispersal.

Trade for 1st quality remains strong with consignmen­ts of some exceptiona­l cows from the Broomhouse and Braemarhou­se Herds topping the day.

Two second calvers from the Easoms Broomhouse Herd both passed the £2000 mark. The first a really superb cow giving 40kg reached £2340 with the second at £2060.

Herd of Messrs Mellor reached £2240 with a second calver from the same home at £2160.

Heifers topped at £2000 from John Chamberlai­n of Marston Montgomery. A beautiful pedigree Shorthorn from Andrew Tunnicliff­e made £1800.

Trade for second and third quality is starting to ease but overall can certainly be described as solid.

Next week we have the herd dispersal of 50 milkers on behalf of Terry and Rose Beardmore of Leasow Partners, due to ill health and 50 pedigree youngstock (314mths) from the high yielding Briley Herd of Messrs Brittleban­k. Catalogues will be on-line shortly.

370894). A superb trade for pigs this Tuesday, with more buyers about and some excellent quality forward, bringing the averages up over 10p on the week.

Cutting pigs sold up to 144p/kg for a pair of 82kg pigs from J & B Fentem who sold other cutting pigs at 132p/kg, 122p/kg and 104p/kg.

Bacon pigs topped at 146p/kg for a pair of 99kg pigs from PF & PD Parsons, Whitchurch who also sold bacon pigs at 144p/kg (twice), 142p/kg (twice) and 140p/kg. a pen of 99kg pigs from Bernard Minshull, Buxton sold at 144p/kg, with a trio of 96kg pigs at 142p/kg for J G Belfield, Sheen, and 141p/kg for 88.6kg pigs from J & B Fentem.

Heavier pigs sold up to 142p/kg for 108kg pigs from J G Belfield, Sheen who also sold a 105kg pigs at 138p/kg, with other heavies at 136p/kg for a 108kg pig from PF & PD Parsons, and 124p/kg for a pair of 106kg pigs from H Kelsall & son, Dean Row, and B Minshull selling heavy pigs at 119p/kg and 117p/kg.

Two cull sows sold up to 98p/kg for a 313kg sow from RAO Johnson, Hilltop and a 225kg sow at 74p/kg for J & B Fentem.

A very pleasing day with over 1650 sheep forward. Pens had to be erected outside due to a large entry of dairy cattle taking over the usual overflow pens.
